Facebook’s AI World Map

Facebook is using AI to map the whole world’s population. We already knew that. What we didn’t realise is that the map would be accurate up to a few meters. Facebook has a plan to create a new ISP that will be government independent, so this project probably tells them where to invest and where not to. The maps are pretty cool too. -BA

Samsung Galaxy S10 fingerprint sensor is one of the not so hot qualities of the new model. It uses an ultrasonic sensor that was supposed to be difficult to spoof but it has been proven to be not all it was cracked up to be. -EE

Innovation in the venture industry is a venture studio. The difference is starting with a team rather than starting with a proven idea. If venture studios will become the new accelerator remains to be seen. It does not stop the bandwagon effect for corporates though. -BA

Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing, still an emerging technology, is one of the most fascinating things researchers, organizations, and governments have been working on in this century so far. The race toward building the first fully-functional, fully-working quantum computer (also called supercomputer) is on.

With its impressive computational power quantum computers will most like be a cloud service in the near future rather than on-premise machines. IBM is already offering cloud-based quantum computing services.

The first quantum computer is going to have a significant advantage over the others. In 2019, the competence to achieve supercomputer supremacy will intensify. As a consequence, the last mile in the race will remain mostly secretive, for obvious reasons. -GM
